How we race the dogs.

In 2002 after racing our dogs for several years at various council parks. We approached Dogs Victoria to include a lure race track at KCC Park.  Permission was granted and we contributed $2000.00 for the fencing. We held our races on the embankment parallel to Westernport Highway for the first 10 months while we put 4 inches of soil on the track and planted the grass.

Any breed of dog 12 ½ inches (32 centimeters) or less at the Withers race as Standards and dogs over 32 centimeters up to 18 inches race as Talls. All larger dogs are referred to the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club who conducts Lure Coursing monthly at the KCC Park (Contact for Ridgeback Club is Kate 0438879630).

Italian Greyhounds and Whippets up to 18 inches (46 centimeters) at the withers race in their own class and are welcome to join our racing.  Registration for our Lure Racing at KCC Park is from 10-15am to 10-45am. On our race days, after completing registration your dog is allocated a race number and after registration closes off a computer draw for the races is completed.

Dog’s race four at a time from starting boxes as shown in the picture. For the 2nd race your dog will race against dogs that finished in the same order as your dog. Example if your dog wins its first race it will race against other winners the same applies to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th placed dogs. Points are awarded 4,3,2, and 1 for each of 3 races. The progressive points score sheet is displayed on our notice board at each meeting.

In November we have our presentation day for our points score competition with Trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each of 4 divisions for standards, 2 divisions for talls and one division for Italian Greyhounds and Whippets.

At our presentation day we provide a free sausage BBQ, hot dogs and vegie burgers with soft drinks. We also hold novelty events, with owners and their dogs.

Please Note only Members are eligible for our Point Score Competition.
